For March the subject is one that is near and dear to everyone’s heart here in the Akron, Canton, and Cleveland area. All of us here in northeast Ohio can appreciate how weather can affect our daily lives, let alone our birthday parties, reunions, school or church events or any other outdoor party. As for an event including party rentals such as inflatable bounce houses, slides or any other inflatable bouncer, the weather can be a huge factor.
There are a number of weather conditions that can affect your party. The Bouncy's Party Fun weather policy can be found on the frequently asked questions page of www.bouncyspartyfun.com. Those policies will be covered in this article. We will also cover some of the options available to you should the weather not cooperate on your party date.
Probably the most common issue is rain. Rain, if it’s more than just a sprinkle will make the jumper very slippery and will also cause the top to sag and eventually cause the unit to collapse on itself along with any riders inside. For this reason, the use of a bounce house during rain is prohibited. If it begins to rain during your party, the best thing to do is to turn the blower motor off, disconnect it from the power source and cover it. Take up two of the four stakes holding the bouncer down and fold it over on itself in half. Also fold the ground tarp. Stake the side you folded to the ground. After the rain stops, you just reverse the process and the party is back on!
Another hazard is thunder and lightning. If you have rented a bounce house and you hear thunder or see lighting. Please deflate the moonwalk immediately. Follow the same procedure for rain and do not re-inflate the inflatable until the weather has passed.
Along with rain and lighting, wind posses possibly the greatest threat to operating an inflatable safely. Twenty mile per hour sustained winds with gusts to thirty five or forty could lead to an accident very quickly. Wind can cause a bouncer or other inflatable to tip over and roll if it is not secured to the ground properly. Even when properly secured strong winds could cause an accident. Any time winds are twenty miles per hour or more, the bounce house should be deflated. Do not attempt to re-inflate until the winds have subsided.
One other weather issue is the temperature. The normal operating range for Inflatables is between 50 to 90 degrees. Any colder than about 50 degrees and the vinyl gets too stiff and brittle to unfold and refold. In the hot weather the vinyl can get too warm to the touch. This can be mitigated by having the bouncer set-up in the shade.
One of the biggest responsibilities of the person in charge of the inflatable bounce house is to use common sense to determine if weather conditions are good enough to allow for safe operation. Also, be willing to do the unpopular thing and end the use of the inflatable if the weather is not cooperating.
We get a lot of questions concerning how the weather will affect your event. Our policy is that a representative of Bouncy's Party Fun will contact you on the day of your event if the weather is in question. If after we have consulted with you, you would like to cancel or reschedule your party. That is what we will do. No extra charge and your deposit will be fully refunded or applied to your rescheduled party. If you decide to go ahead with your party and the weather gets worse after the bouncer is set-up, there will be no refund. Bouncy's Party Fun reserves the right to cancel any event if in our view the weather is too bad for inflatable use. All weather cancellations before the event and before set-up will lead to a full refund of any deposited amount.
Remember we at Bouncy's Party Fun want you to enjoy your rental. Safety is paramount to that enjoyment. Please have fun and follow all of our guidelines for safe operations, during inclement weather.
